2001 Jeep Cherokee How Do I?

How do i know if my part time 4 wheel drive is working properly i shift the lever up and the light on the dash goes on but it doesent feel different i came from one other 4x4 the was an 1988 when i put that in 4x4 i would hear and feel it and notice a change in rpms has the Technology gotten better and im just used to the old or is my 4x4 broken?

the way most of the part time 4 wheel drive works is it will give traction to the wheels that don't slip so if your rear tires are not getting traction than the front tires will pull you out but if you have the locking 4hi and 4low with a neutral and 2wheel then you will feel it when turning
