I have only just bought the jeep, it shakes so violently that it is impossible to hold a steady course. I have to stop, when I start again the shaking begins again this can go on for 50 miles then it drives fine until the next time.can do 200 miles great and then misbehaves again

Have the front end inspected for bad bushings or rod ends. Also have them check the tires, if anyone has used a liquid tire sealer, it can cause strange vibrations at those speeds from it moving around in the tire.Doubt itis brake issue, then the wheel would saw back and forth when you applied the brakes
