Brought the vehicle used for no money and don't wish to put alot of money into the truck. When I purchased it the engine light was on. DTC code indicates low catalytic pressure. Intermittent problems, engine light's been on for 2 months. Recently engine light went out and has been out for weeks. Told by a "shady" shop that I need a catatlytic converter w/california emissions - quite expensive. Been told by other reputable shops I need an oxygen sensor. With the engine light going out for long periods of time and considering the code, which is my best bet to replace the converter or the O2 sensor. Or neither? It does idle hard up to #2 on the RPM meter.

Unrelated the ABS light came on for one day intermittently after my teen son drove it. But hasnt came on or caused me any other problems for 2 weeks now. Any concern?

At that mileage the "shady" shop could very well be right. If it was giving a catalyst efficiency code the converter may be on the edge of going, but if driven nice the light may stay out. It needs to go on a gas analyzer to see how well the converter is working. Do you happen to know the exact code number it had in the PCM?
