1999 jeep grand cherokee 130246 miles
When driving around 45 - 50 mph, my jeep starts to uncontrollably shimmy. once i brake to below 45mph, it stops. or if i am at 40 mph, and hit a bump,it can start shaking

Maybe tires are worn. Have you had them rotated and balanced? Could be many things. Take it to a tire shop and have them look everything over. Wouldn't hurt to get an alignment or steering dampner.

Try a heavy duty steering shock dampner, rancho make good ones, or get the original equipment replacement from a dealer, but I recommend the rancho or similar aftermarket brand, they are generaly
more heavy duty.
