1999 Jeep Cherokee thermostat

i believe my jeep needs a thermo, it over heats while driving and i am able to bring temp back down by air cooling/ blasting heat, im very familar with all older vws but thats it, i have no idea where to even look from the therm in my jeep, do you think this the problem and where can i locate the thermo to change it, thx for your help!

Follow the top rad. hose over to the engine. The housing it attaches two that's it.
See if fan is operating properly.

Follow the upper hose till it meets up with the thermostat housing see below
