I just bought a new starter for my 99 Jeep Cherokee Sport. I know i need a new starter because ive just replaced my battery and battery terminals, and we did the old bang on the starter waith a wrench trick while we cranked it and it finally did turn over. The next day it did again but only once. Problem: installed the new starter to exact the right specifications. Now i put the positive cable on the battery. Next, as im putting the negative cable on sparks appear. If i go all the way and put it on dispite the sparks, the car trys to turn over automatically. it never will just turn on it just trys. The keys arent in the ignition or anything. Whats going on here??

Recheck all wiring, sounds like there is a short in one of the wires.
