I own a 1999 Jeep Cherokee 4.0L V6. I have already purchased the new alternator. I don't own Torque wrench set. I do have socket wrenches. Will this be a problem?

yes you will have to torque the bolts properly or risk premature failure. you should be able to rent a torque wrench from a local auto part store though. usually you just pay a deposit then borrow the tool , upon returning tool you get the deposit back.

CAUTION: I believe at least some of the torque values given above are N-m, not ft-lb. One newton-meter is about 1.36 foot-pounds.

I have a 96 straight 6 cherokee country. I recommend getting a HAYNES repair manual (20.00?) for your year model. There are many instructions, illustrations, pictures that will be useful in removing altenator. Too much info to post in this forum, and it will answer questions you didn't know you had. Good Luck!

disconnect the battery, remove the serp belt, disconnect the power supply wiring on the back of the alt, unbolt it from the mount, and reverse the order to replace it.

You remove it from underneath. If there is splash guard underneath, take one end loose, so you can move it out of the way.

Take negative battery cable loose, remove alternator belt. Remove electrical connector/s from alternator. As far as removing alternator bolts, use your own intiative as far as what to remove to get alternator out.
