I have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee. I had the same problem with both speakers in the front doors.

Inside the protective rubber sleeve to protect the wires from the chassis to door, you will find a splice that is stiff. Because of the bending of these wires everytime the door is opened and closed, the protective covering over the splice weakens and breaks.

Solution: Slice the rubber sleeve down it's long axis, remove the sleeve. Find Black/Green Wire (check this color code to be sure) to splice. Cut and strip back wires and repair accordingly. Slide boot sleeve back over wires.

Good Luck
