1999 Jeep Cherokee cost for repair

i've been told my jeep needs a front diff. and axels. it smells hot and is loud in 4wd. it's got that raw sound. they said i should expect to pay 2k to 2500 or so. is this reasonable and is this probably the problem? these guys seem pretty reliable.

could be either the front differential or worn hubs even a bad transfercase

best thign to do is jack up the vehicle, put it secured by jackstands.

put the 4X4 on and turn the wheels, notice any rough movement or noise?

2,000 is a reasonable price parts and labor for the axles and differential.
