I have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee (approx 176,000 km) and just today, when I turn off the engine, my daytime running lights won't go out. They stay on and drain my battery.

Any idea with could be the problem or a fix to the problem??

"canada only" - The headlights on your vehicle will illuminate when the vehicle is started and the VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR recognizes forward motion, will stay on until engine is turned off. I also noticed that the VSS is interfaced with a "Daytime Running Light Module" in the schematics. I was looking for a signal path so you could pull a fuse if necessary as a temp. fix, but I have 8 different front lighting schematics for 97 and later, and they are a bit vague - I'm slightly disappointed with the quality on these. I'm seeing lots of conflicting info at this point -A bad VSS? A bad DRLM? I just wanted to put the VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR and DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT MODULE ideas out there and let one of the Grand Cherokee GURUs take over...I AM interested at this point to know MORE, time for me to go to school on this issue! Good Luck!

Thanks very much for the reply. I'll be checking in with my mechanic tomorrow to see what's up. As a quick fix, so the battery doesn't drain, we've disconnected the head lamps. Guess I can only drive during the day now! I'll let you know what he says!
