Just purchased the 98 Jeep. It will start but will not idle on its own. I must feather the gas until the engine starts warming up.

Will then idle & run normally. Does not miss or run badly, just goes to 0 RPM's when it sits overnight and I first try to start it. Restarts ok but wont run normally until arm.

Could this be a TPS? I've heard talk of ASD's doing this too but I'm just guessing.

Any thoughts will be appreciated!

It sounds like an automatic choke is stuck in the OPEN position.

It has to WARM UP to meet the conditions of a good run in the STUCK OPEN ( OR HOT ) position.

Whether this is purely a thermal choke or is electronic or electrically driven, I do not know.

It may be as simple as a transducer failure or corrosion.

Apparently an AUTOMATIC FEATURE of choke regulation has failed.
