1998 Jeep Cherokee Tranny slips

While driving my jeep home from work it seemed like my transmission sliped into neutral from drive. I shut the car down and re-started it but couldn't get the car to shift out of park. I finally got it to shift into neutral and pushed it to the side of the road and once there it would shift into drive and get it home. Any ideas?

Has the check engine light ever come on? Is the ATF full and clean? Have you ever had the trans serviced?
