Engine Mechanical problem
1998 Jeep Cherokee 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic ????? miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
my sister drove her 98 jeep grand cherokee to my house on sunday and stayed the night on monday there was a bad electrical storm and on she never left my house on tuesday she went to leave and her car would not start. she had checked all wiring and battery cables. she found one bad fuse and replaced it. the speed ometer acts strange even before the car is attempting to start by going around in circles from 0mph to 170 and then back around. could this be caused by an electrical short or could lighting hit the jeeep and fry the computer? she is desperate.

Hi there,

Most strange. The possibility of a lighting strike is a possibility. I would do a scan and see if that shows any fault. If no fault, induce one by removing a sensor connection and try and start. This will check the fault gathering of the ECU. check battery & all earths as it is a bad earth problem i feel.
