Will not shift into overdrive, does try and engine bucks but will not shift into overdrive

I was hoping that the light came on to help identify were the problem was coming from. Based on our conversation, my first instinct says the converter isn't locking up and needs replaced. If it was a sensor or a problem with the trans control module, the light should have come on.
