1997 Jeep Cherokee How to remove the oil cap

We are trying to remove the oil cap from the rocker cover but it does not want to come off it appears to be like a safety cap on a pill bottle can you please advise

Well normally you just unthread like removing a bottle cap. I have seen them stripped so they just cllick when you turn them , if that is the case you can carefully pry on the edge of the cap and actually pop the top piece off leaving the threaded portion in the valve cover. This can then be removed with a pair of pliers or channel locks by just turning out. Just dont put it back in so tight by hand you cannot turn it out next time. Hope this helps Curt
