just replaced the drive belt and it squeals when the vehicle is first started. I have been taking tension off a little at time to cure the problem, am I going in the right direction? It has a manual tensioner.

try using belt dressing on it to see if you can quiet it.

is it a loud squeal or kind of a "chirping" sound?

check the condition of the belt. shouldnt be too worn or cracked or glazed. you should tighten the belt not loosen it. as its the sudden jolt of the engine starting that causes the belt to start.
