1997 Jeep Cherokee Check engine light

I filled the gas tank and forgot to screw the gas cap back on. The check engine light came on shortly afterwards. I put the gas cap on but the warning light is still on. How do I reset the check engine light.

remove battery cable for a few minutes then reconnector OR use a diagnostic scanner ( most auto part stores will do this for you free) and have the code(s) erased.
