It won't lock when I close it. How do I repair or get it to lock?

Hmmm. Quick Edit. I had Liftgate on the brain when I posted this, but the process and theory still apply to WHICHEVER lock isn't working. Which Lock is it? End of Edit!
Electric Locks? Just finding out if the rear liftgate locking mechanism is working when you depress the "lock" button. If someone stands at the rear while you cycle the lock switch lock/unlock, can they HEAR the lock working? Do the rest of the locks work? First, try a liberal application of WD-40 into the mechanical lock parts inside the liftgate, then cycle lock to unstick the "dried-out" parts that friction is causing to not move.
Do you get the same results when locking/unlocking from the PASSENGER SIDE controls? If neither control works, check the 30A Power accessory circuit breaker and a 25A fuse located.(See your owner's manual). If both controls work, and no sound from liftgate motor, problem is isolated to that area. Possible broken wire or dead motor. If liftgate motor DOES work, then re-alignment of the "striker post" that the lock mechanism grabs onto may be necessary. I'm looking at a schematic for 1997 and later, just shows pink/black and orange/black wires coming from the lock electric motors back to the switches. Not a whole lot of detail. Bummer. Share what you find!
