1996 Jeep Cherokee grinding upon acceleration

Did you ever find out what the answer to the Jeep noise was? I have the same exact car, with the same exact problem.

the original post is this, and I have the same issue.

When my air conditioning/defrost is turned off, I have no problem. However, whenever either my A/C or defrost is on I have a problem. When I am idle everything is fine, A/C works great.
But whenever I ACCELERATE, push on the gas, and only when my A/C is on I get this loud sreeching noise from under the hood. When I shut A/C the sound stops immediately. Also stops if I take my foot off of the gas pedal!!

sounds like the ac compressor is shot, probably a bad clutch or bearing, disconnect drive belt and turn ac on, does problem still appear? if not suspect the compressor.

is there metal shavings on it?
