Our 96 Grand Cherokee has developed a noticible wobble in the steering and pull to the right. We have been advised that the front axle 'boot hubs' need to be replaced.

We would appreciate clarification as to what exactly this is and what is involved.

Hello,

I believe they are talking about the front bearings which is a hub assembly and possibly the Axle Boot.
Did they quote you a repair cost?

If that is the case then it is about a 2 -3 hour job and I would recommend replacing the CV Axle instead of replacing just the boot, for the simple reason that if the boot grease has been contaminated then depending on how long its been that way there has been road debri getting into the grease and wearing the bearings inside, plus it will save you money in the long run. Cause whos to say if they just replace the boot that the axle doesn't go bad within a month or so.

I would also call and double check what they told you and ask them to clarify or get a 2nd opinion from another garage.
