Hi I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, 5.2 liter V8, with quadra trac all wheel drive. So heres whats happening: Whenever I take off from a stop, such as a light for instance I get a intermitent popping that seems to be coming from somewhere underneath, sometimes is sound like its from the front end, sometimes the middle or the rear. Also whenever I turn left and accelerate, such as I left turn at a light, I get kind of a grand/pop that is coming from the left front end, only happens when turning left and sometimes I can feel the pop/grind through the floor. Also if I am accelerating and hit bumps under the front end I also get a pop. What I have had done so far: I have had the left front axle replaced, and the lower left ball joints replaced. I have also had my sway bar inlinks and bushings replaced, and the left front wheel bearing, and still get the noise! If you have any ideas as to what is stressing me out please feel free to let me know. THANKS!

Have the control arms and bushings going from axle to frame been checked?

Yes I had them checked out by les schwabs and they told me that all of my control arm bushings need to be replaced, however the problem seems to be worse when I first drive it, before all the internal stuff can be warmed up, so it made me think it was more of an internal problem such as in an axle. But maybe I should spend the 500 and have them do the work on the control arms?

Found a TSB 21-02-97 REV. A, 21-09-98 states a thumping or creaking noise may be heard comming from the transmission tunnel area on acceleration or while driving over bumpy roads.

Thanks alot for the feed back. The Jeep just got out of the shop for the noises, I had the appointment setup prior to getting on here and talking to you. Anyway the mechanic wasnt able to find anything wrong with my front suspension, he didnt check other things. However when he pulled the jeep out of his shop he told me that he heard a noise coming from the transfer case when backing up and braking, however when I drove it I wasnt able to get it to do it so he stated " the thing must not like being jacked up, and then backed up." So im guessing this means my problem is for sure coming from the transfer case?

I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4wheel drive with Quadra Trac II all time 4 wheel drive

It was making a horrible noise & the cv joint noise.I thought all the noise was from the cv joints as I had left go way too long.I changed the cv halfshafts on both sides. The horrible noise was still there. It's driving me crazy.I took it to a friend that said it was the passengers side wheel bearing.I could hear the wheel bearing howling after he told that but didn't really think that was the noise thats driving me insane. I had him change the wheel bearing which it needed but THAT NOISE still is not fixed. Him and his step father who both work on vehicles took it for a drive. Step father said it was the transfer case chain dragging when I accelarate and stop. He said it was bone dry & put some oil in it for me until I could get it fixed. PULL A PART YARDS here in Memphis the cost is $75. Rebuilts at an AUTO PARTS STORE $1080 - My son n law is going to change it this weekend hopefully that will have been the problem.I'LL POST SOMETHING TO INFORM AS TO WHAT THE OUTCOME WAS.
