I bought this 1996 Jeep Cherokee about a month ago - 190k miles on it - the temperature gauge seems to go into the red about 10 minutes into driving it - whether in the village or on the highway. Before I take it to the Jeep dealership - I thought I would ask opinions here. A friend suggested either the thermostat or the radiator - I just replaced the fuel filter a few days ago because it would not stay running when I turned it on - no problems before that day. There was a lot of gunk that came out the old filter.
Thanks so much for all the advice. :-)

HI there,

I would be checking the thermostat and the radiator as well to start with.

Mark - thanks for replying :-). I'm heading to the parts store after work today to get the thermostat - having a friend help me change it out. I'm hoping this is all it takes to get it out of the red. In spite of all it's bumps and bruises - I think it will be a fun car to have and learn to work on.
