Engine Mechanical problem
1995 Jeep Cherokee V8 125000 miles

There is a vehicle that I'm interested in purchasing however I don't know how to go about diagnosing if the engine has locked up. The owner of the vehicle drove the vehicle without any oil. If the engine has locked up, what would need to be replaced? What would I need to look out for? How much would I have to invest to repair the problem?

it is never a good thing to run any engine with out oil but if you disconect the battery and remove spark plugs you then put wrench on crank shaft pulley bolt and turn if it turns then moter is not locked up but I would be worried about inturnal damage from no oil you would be best replaceing the engine you would have to look in local junk yards to find the same engine that is in that jeepti might cost anywere from $700-$1200 for engine and if you have shop do the work its about $1000-$2000
