Drive Train Axles Bearings problem
1994 Jeep Cherokee 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 170K miles

to make a long story short. I bought a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Before I purchased, I took it to a Jeep dealership. Paid them to do a diagnostic. The problem I explained was that when I made a right or left Hard turn it made a noise and vibrated. After their diagnostic, they told me the problem was and need a new front axel. The vehicle itself is in immpeccalbe condition. Stupid me feel for it. But I relied on the dealership. So I pay them $800.00 for the repairs of course I purchased the Jeep. When I drove the vehicle home is started with the noise and vibrations again. Took jeep back and lo and behold it is now the transfer case. $2500 to fix. My question. Can the shaft be removed and the 4 wheel drive be disconnected and my daughter drives as an all wheel drive or front wheel drive (whichever it becomes) I really don't have the money to shell out another $2500. Had I have known all this I would have purchased a $7,000 vehicle. I would love nothing more than to donate for your organization as I'm hoping you can help me. But I am busted. My late husband taught me a bit about vehicles. But apparantly not enough to get screwed. Thank you. I will donated in future I promise. THan you and God Bless!

You can remove the diveshaft that runs from the case to the front axle, it will operate as a rear wheel drive. If this does not solve the problem, the front axle may need a bottle of friction additive becase it could be a limited slip axle, and friction modifiers condition the clutches in the axle!

Approximately how much would it cost to remove the drive shaft from the front axel, thus becoming rear wheel drive. Also, is it safe.

Thanks Merlin
