1994 Jeep Cherokee filter and rough shifting

Car has a rough shift and do not think filter was ever changed. Can i change it with minimul problems. Does not go into overdrive or high on highway after I filled ap and put in some trans shift helper

Hey if it was mine I would try a drain and fill, and change the filter. I would not recommend letting the Grease Monkey putting it on their trans machine and sucking out the fluid like they do. I did that once and it ruined my trans. I actual worked at one of those 10 min. oil change places. they did that to a guys suv. that had a lot of miles on it, and it would not sift after that. The old fluid is full of metal shavings and sludge. and somehow it acts like a glue holding everything together. if you take it all out it may not be good. Try just a simple drain fill anf filter. make sure you put the right fluid back in. Call your local dealership and ask them if you are not sure what kind of fluid to use.
