what is the proper level for the front diff?? i know that the rear is supposed to be at the top of the hole but have heard different about the front.

What you heard was for newer vehicles that call for synthetic fluids and locking differentials.

This year and model is the same for the back, park on a level surface and fill to bottom of fill plug.
