I am replacing a worn idler but can't get the power steering pump to release enough tension on the belt to replace the new idler. I have loosened front/top three bolts and the back two on the bracket. I've also unscrewed the lower long tension bolt about an inch. The pump feels loose but won't allow enough slack in the belt to get the new idler. any ideas?

Hi Ken, Thank you for the donation. You would have to slip the belt out to enable the replacement of the pulley. With the belt in position, there would be some tension due to the length of the belt and would be almost impossible. Here is a diagram of the belt routing just in case you need it. Tip: You might need to pry the belt slightly with the aid of a screw driver and turn the pulley to get the belt out or back in.
