1992 Jeep Cherokee Automatic

I'm looking at purchasing a 92 Jeep Cherokee Laredo from a woman. She is wanting 1700 but will take best offer. She says this is what is wrong with it "The car runs but overheats because of the severe leaks in the radiator" can anyone tell me what kind of a fix this would be and how much it would cost? I'm wanting to buy it to help her out but don't want to spend 1500-1700 dollars and have a 3000 repair. If you catch my drift. Any tips?

Hi there,

If the radiator is unrepairable you may be looking at around the $500.00 mark to fix it, but I would make sure first that that is the only problem, if it is a head problem as well the price will skyrocket.

Thankyou so much for your response! I'm really doing it because she can't afford repairs and if I can talk her down a little I may get a good deal and she may be able to get another vehicle. How do I tell from looking at it that it's a head leak without having to spend money taking it to a shop?

Hi there,

Normal signs of a head problem can be rough idle and a misfire, bubbling in the radiator with the thermostat open, water surging out of the radiator with the cap off, white smoke, coolant in the oil making it go milky.

Thankyou so much for your help! I ended up getting a 96 Jeep cherokee sport 4.0 6 cylinder with 136k on it. I think I got a really good deal. A friend of mine says he doesn't like dodges/jeeps because he says their transmissions are junk. Is that true? I have the inline six (i think that is what it is called) for an engine and so far there are only a few electrical things wrong with it- how do I

1) fix a window that's off track. I can hear the motor when I try to put the window up or down

2) I think there's a short in the left blinker. It blinks alot faster than the right blinker. How do I go about fixing that?

3) the hyrdaulics in the trunk door are going out (like it won't stay open unless it's being propped open) my friend said that I can replace those hinges myself but I don't really know how to go about it.

Thankyou again so much! I'm going to be sure to make a donation the next time I get on

Hi there, the only real problem I have had with the transmissions is the plastic clips that hold the oil cooler pipes in the transmission, they tend to crack and leak.

The indicator when this happens is normally a blown globe, check all globes on the side that is acting up.

If the window is still in the channel, the problem may be the attach point of the regulator & the window mount or the regulator it self, you will have to remove the door trim to inspect this.

I am not all that failure with the rear door, if they are the actual door hinges best leave this to a body shop or a mechanic, if they are hydraulic cylinders that just hold the door open, these should be relatively easy to replace, unfortunately I have no information to hand on this part of the car.
