1989 Jeep Cherokee Water Pump

Replaced pump and now overheats. Cold air from heater. Removed t-stat and same thing. It's as if the pump is spinning backwards and not pumping

Might have air in block try running with cap off till is operating temp see if coolant is flowing keep adding till full.

No, water does not seem to be flowing. Level stays same in bottle, and not hot. Guage above 210

Did you run it with radiator cap off?
Check the routing of the belt maybe it is possible to get it on to turn the pump backwards does the fan go clockwise?

No cap on rad. Has a pressurized bottle. Closed? System. Yes, ran it on & off. The return fills it up, but does not flow back to system and spills.

Checked and re-checked the belt routing. The fan is on a seperate pulley and spins counter-clockwise

Is this an inline 6?
Does the fan pull hot air through the radiator ie. Can you feel warm air blowing into engine compartment?
Also see if there is a bleeder valve on the head near to thermostat if so crack this open let out traped air.
