1989 Jeep Cherokee engine failure to aselarte

while waiting in line at the gas station when i presed on the aselator pedel the engine began to shake with no car movement but it idled ok same hapened in nutral i opened the hood and moved the throtle several times it continued to idle ok but would not aselerate just went to shaking sudenly it began to operate ok I WONT LEAVE TOWN TIL I KNOW HOW To FIX thanks for your help rony

Could be the transmission slipping -check the fluid level and condition not the problem do below

Inspect and test the MAP and TPS sensors to include a fuel pressure check and report back with some results
