i have just got done taking the piston out of my cherokee and found that the rod bearings where almost gone, the effects of the bearing not being in place has caused the crankshaft to become scratched, how do i get the scratches out of the crank, i want to do it myself, and will the engine run efficiently when i reassemble it?

your going to have to take it to a machine shop and have it reground down and put in undersize bearings to reassemble it, if they are minute scratches you can use some emery cloth but dont rub it much.
