2006 Jaguar XK8 V8 Automatic 39000 miles

I have been getting a message that my cruise control is not available and check my rear lights. My lights are working. My cruise is not. Yesterday my check engine light came on. What's going on and how serious is it?

check the brake light's are working .. have the vehicle plugged into a diagnostic computer and repost with fault codes for more assistance !
