The shifter is console mounted and tonight my wife called from the store and said the car would not start. On arrival I noticed that the battery was hot but engine would not turn over. At this time I noticed that the backup lights were on and the red "R" on the shift console was lit. The thing thinks it is in reverse but the shifter is in Park and will not move. I tried rocking the car, could not get under it to look at linkage because car was too low to the ground. Something has slipped or is out of adjustment.
Can you guide me?
