2000 Jaguar XJR fail safe mode

my fail safe mode comes on either at start up or while driving intermittently. if i restart and undo and replace gas cap it sometimes goes away. what do i do to get it to stop?

have the vehicle plugged into a diagnostic computer to retrieve the fault codes .. repost with the codes for more assistance
