Engine Cooling problem
2001 Jaguar XJ8 V8 Automatic 131000 miles

My engine normally runs consistently at a good temp. The temp gauge sits steady right in the middle. But a couple of times, after sitting in stopped traffic, the temp suddenly shot way up then dropped down rapidly while I was moving. This may or may not be related - The AC compressor consistently cuts off when stopped at a light, even though the engine temp gauge is fine and not moving. Clues - Normally, when I park, neither fan on the radiator runs, but I have seen each of them working recently. Thoughts?
