2001 Jaguar XJ8 engine light reset

I just purchased this jag and my abs and engine light came on so I took it to a mechanic. They told me my back brakes were done so I changed them and the routers but the engine light and the abs lights are still on. Does it need a reset? Can bad brakes cause my engine light to go on or is there something else thats wrong with my car? Please help.

A diagnostic computer needs to be used to reset the check engine light and abs light. Generally the brakes will not cause the check engine light to illuminate. Have the system scanned for other fault codes
