2001 Jaguar XJ8 engine computer

this vehicle experienced wire damage caused by probably a squirrel. wires from juction box to engine were partially chewed thru. when engine was started, obviously it didnt run right. car was taken to mechanic who traced and repaired damaged wire. on completion #1 and #3 injectors are not working. diagnosis shows wire continuity and power at key on position afterwhich there is nothing to those injectors. mechanic feels that possible short happened from damaged wires which compromised the ecu. does this sound plausable or is there other possibilities we should be eliminating before replacing a very expensive computer.

the ECU does control fuel injector ON time so it could well be the ECU if the wires are good ..
