2001 Jaguar XJ8 V8 Front Wheel Drive Automatic

My Check Engine light came on with the message "Check Gas Cap" as I was driving so I tightened the gas cap when I stopped but the Check Engine light is still on. What possibly could be wrong with my car or will the check engine light eventually reset on its own?

have the vehicle plugged into a diagnostic computer .. if there are noother faults the light will eventualy go out
