1998 Jaguar XJ8 low oil pressure indicator light in red

Greetings:

I'm getting a warning indicator light in red on my dast "low oil pressure." when I check the oil is fine and at the right level. the light seems to come on a random. no sounds are coming from the engine and no decline in performance. What could this be? and does it sound like a very expensive job to fix?
