there is a whistling sound coming from the rear of the engine the engine dies when rpm is below 1000

Sounds like a vacuum leak. Take a can of regular carb cleaner and spray around the area where the wistle seems to be coming from. If you hit a leak, the engine's RPMs will rise and it will smoothen out for a little bit.
