1997 Jaguar XJ6 V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

windshield wiper intermitting works / fails in one direction question problem with motor or electrical or mechanical. how wood you trouble shoot this problem and is this a known issue

It goes in one direction 3/4 of the way and stops. Then you can pull it back and it will do the same thing again.
I haven't seen this car it belongs to a friend (single Mom) of mine and I thought it wood be helpful to know as much as I can before I look at it.

When the wiper arm stops in mid-position, can you manually move it to complete the cycle? Be careful not to force it too hard so you break something. If you can't move the arm all the way, you may have something stuck in the gear drive. There should be a cover on the motor unit you can remove and check. Please advise.
