I have a 1996 Jaguar XJ6 Sport 4.0 Straight Six with 4 speed automatic transmission. The car drives like a dream except for one minor problem. When I use the sport-mode it won't change out of first gear, and these symptons persist even after sport mode has been deactivated, until the cars been left over night, then it works fine! Any ideas?

Jag parts are too expensive to guess on a cause. I would recomend you have it plugged into a diagnostic unit, put it in sport mode and watch what the computer does when you switch it out of mode. This will help narrow it down.
