1996 Jaguar XJ6 engine rebuilt or replacements engines

I got tht Jaguar and they diagnose one piston at 58% while the other ones were above 130. I was told to run it until it died but is my wife car. She love to keep it. before I keep putting money into the car. What will be the most reasonable and lower cost to repair the engine. It will be rebuilt it, or I hear that I can put another type of engine on the car and it will work ok. Please advice. Thank you.

Question; Does it smoke when warmed up and running? If NO, then you probably just have a bad valve(s). If this be the case, it will drop your cyl. compression, also. A valve job is a heck of a lot cheaper than a motor swap. BUT, if you are intent on another motor, there of dozens of used and rebuilt engines available on the internet. This site has listings, also. Two things you have to consider are; 1- shipping costs. 2-resolving warranty problems "by long distance" should they arise.
As far as swapping to a "different motor" there are kits available for installing like a GM 350 in an xj6. They are expensive and once installed, you have reduced your resale to a specialized market and this may hurt you. The car is nolonger a "real Jaguar". Hope this helps.
