AXLE SHAFT
Removal
Disconnect battery ground connection. Loosen axle shaft hub nut. Raise and support vehicle. Remove rear wheel.
Unplug brake sensor connector. Remove brake caliper without disconnecting hydraulic line, and wire aside. Loosen hub carrier fulcrum and remove ABS sensor from hub carrier.
Disconnect parking brake cable from lever. Remove hub nut and collar. Remove nuts/bolts securing axle shaft to differential. Using Thread Protector (JD 1D/7) and Hub Remover (JD 1D), push shaft through hub. Remove axle shaft assembly.
Installation
To install, reverse removal procedure. Prior to assembly, clean all old adhesive from hub splines and axle shaft. Apply fresh Loctite to hub splines before installing. Use NEW nuts/bolts where originally fitted with self locking parts. Use NEW cotter pins and safety wire (where applicable). Tighten all nuts/bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS.
