1985 Jaguar XJ6 AUXILLARY RADIATOR FAN

My 1985 XJ6 Jaguar has a small auxiallary radiator fan located on the drivers side lower outside corner of the radiator. When I drive the car the fan comes on after a short while then will not shut off until I unhook the battery cable. When I remove power and fan stops it does not restart when I retighten battery cable. Do you know what controls this fan and could I just unhook it and forget it?

Have you let the fan run to see if it shuts off by itself after a period of time? Some of these fans are on a thermostat and won't stop until the radiator cools down.
