1984 Jaguar XJ6 Broken Door Latches

My Jaguar has two boken doors. Niether of these doors will latch when they are shut. Also when i pull on the handles, both inside and outside, there is no response to the latches. I have tried taking the latch off and greasing it up, however it dit no good. I really want to get these latches fixed so I can start driving it again. Is there any way i will be able to fix the problem by myself, and if so, how?

take the latches to locksmith to see if they can be repaired
