1994 Jaguar XJ40 Car won't start in parked position.

1994 Jaguar XJ40 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

To start the car I now have to hold the gear lever over to the right hand side, I have had the car for 10 years and it has never been a problem, recently a light on the dash came on that looks like a lighting flash, can anyone shed any light on this issue please?
