My 2003 XType started making mechanical noises in the engine. The dealer thinks it has a bad bearing and would replace the engine because they don't repair them. Is a replacement necessary or is a repair possible and a reasonable alternative?

replacement bearings (i'm presuming crank) are possible .. it all depends on how badly the bearings are and whether they have destroyed the crankshaft also ?
