2002 Jaguar X-Type Gearbox Fault / Check Engine P0740

I was wondering why there is a split in the VIN numbers for the A/T. After VIN 79??? there is a different A/T for the 2002 X-Type. Were the ones before this defective or something? The reason I'm asking is that I have the gearbox fault happening. An the 2002 X-type with VIN number after 79??? is compatible with later year X-types. Thanks.
