1976 Jaguar Sovereign pushing gear stick into drive

Hi can you help, i have a V12 daimler jag automatic box, when i put it into drive from standing still it takes approx 5-6 seconds to engage, reverse is fine that engages straight away, the box has no funny noises and seems to drive fine afer it finaly engages. do you know what it could be

Hello .. thanks for the donation .. much appreciated I would have the vehicle checked by a transmission shop .. this may be a faulty/sticking shift solonoid inside the trans or posssibly slipping forward drive clutches .. ? Hope this helps
